Applying from the UK

Croatia visa: the official route.

Who needs one, what it costs and how long it takes. Checked against official sources on 30 Sep 2026.

Who needs this visa

  • You live in the UK and hold a passport that needs a Schengen visa, for example an Indian, Pakistani, Nigerian, Chinese or South African passport.
  • Your main destination is Croatia: where you’ll spend the most nights, or where you enter the Schengen area if your stays are equal.
  • Your trip is up to 90 days in any 180 day period. Longer stays need a national visa.

Who usually doesn’t

  • British citizens, and citizens of the EU, EEA and Switzerland.
  • Other visa free passport holders, such as US, Canadian or Australian citizens, for stays of up to 90 days in 180.
  • Holders of a valid residence permit issued by a Schengen country.
  • Visa free travellers will need an ETIAS travel authorisation once the EU starts it.

Your UK residence and nationality

  • Your nationality decides whether you need a visa. Your UK status decides whether you can apply in the UK.
  • Apply here only if you’re legally resident in the UK. You’ll usually show this with your UK eVisa (via a share code) or residence permit.
  • Many consulates expect your UK permission to stay to last at least three months beyond your return. If it expires sooner, check with the consulate before you book.
  • If you’re only visiting the UK, you normally apply in the country where you live.

What it costs

Schengen visa fee (official)
About £77 (€90) adults · about £39 (€45) children aged 6 to 11Set in euros and paid in pounds at the rate the consulate sets. Free for children under 6. Some nationalities pay less.
VFS Global service charge

Flyinbird service fee
From £79 per traveller£79 document help, £99 appointment help or £149 full support. Full support can start with a £49 deposit.

Two different waits

Getting an appointment

How soon you get an appointment depends on VFS Global’s availability, which is tightest in summer and around school holidays. You can apply up to six months before you travel, and no later than 15 days before.

Processing after you apply

Once you’ve attended, the consulate usually decides within 15 calendar days. This can extend to 45 days if it needs more documents or checks.

Before you apply

Avoid the
common mistakes.

Most application problems are avoidable. These are the ones we see most often, and how we help you steer clear of them.

  1. 01

    Incomplete documentation

A single missing document can delay an application or raise questions about it.

We check your file against the official checklist before you submit.

  2. 02

    Incorrect travel dates

Dates that don’t line up across bookings, insurance and the form are easy to miss.

We cross check dates across every document.

  3. 03

    Information inconsistencies

Names, addresses or employment details that differ from one document to the next.

We review your details for consistency, line by line.

  4. 04

    Missing supporting evidence

A form on its own doesn’t always explain your circumstances or purpose of travel.

We help you identify evidence that supports your trip.

  5. 05

    Poorly prepared application

A disorganised file is harder to assess, however strong the application behind it.

We help you present everything clearly and in order.

frequently asked questions.

Still have a question? Our team can talk through your trip and your circumstances.

Speak to an expert

It depends on your passport, not just your UK address. British citizens usually do not need a visa for a short holiday in Croatia. If your nationality requires a Schengen visa, a UK residence permit or eVisa does not normally replace it. We can check the route for your passport and UK status.

Yes. Croatia’s UK guidance says the tourism accommodation reservation or voucher must be in the applicant’s name. If someone else made the booking, ask the accommodation provider to confirm that you are a guest. A booking showing only another traveller can leave a gap in your evidence.

Croatia’s UK guidance directs applicants to its VFS centres in London, Manchester or Edinburgh. Submit in person through the relevant booking route. Check any special arrangements if you are applying as a qualifying family member rather than an ordinary tourist.

A Schengen visa covers Croatia when valid for your trip, but Bosnia and Herzegovina has separate entry rules. Check any exemption for your passport and visa before adding a stop. Returning to Croatia also requires an unused entry on your Schengen visa.

Usually, yes. Croatia is in the Schengen area. Check that your visa covers Croatia and has the dates, entries and days needed for your visit. Do not rely on old guidance that treats Croatia as a separate non-Schengen destination.

You must check two things: Montenegro’s entry rules for your passport, and whether your Schengen visa allows you to re-enter Croatia. Montenegro is outside Schengen, so leaving on a single-entry visa can prevent your return even if unused days remain.

You will usually need your passport, application form, photo, proof of UK residence, travel medical insurance, itinerary, accommodation and evidence you can afford the trip. Documents about your job, studies or sponsor may also be needed. We will help you match the file to the official Croatia checklist.

The standard short-stay Schengen visa fee is €90 for an adult. Reduced fees or exemptions apply to some applicants. The visa centre may charge a separate service fee, and Flyinbird’s optional assistance is another cost. Check the current fee in pounds and what is included before paying.
