The biometrics appointment comes after you apply, once IRCC sends the instruction letter. Book it quickly to avoid delays.
IRCC publishes a current processing time for visitor visas applied for from the UK. It changes regularly, so check it before you book travel.
Always check the official pages before you apply. They take priority over this guide.

Biometrics & processing
The online application completed and details checked for consistency.
Your documents organised, checked and uploaded with the application.
You give fingerprints and a photograph at a visa application centre.
How we help
After the application is lodged, you give biometrics at a visa application centre. Appointments are booked through the centre, which sets its own availability.
Flyinbird doesn’t control appointment availability or visa decisions. Slots are released by the visa centre and can vary by season and location.
Speak to an expertBefore you apply
Most application problems are avoidable. These are the ones we see most often, and how we help you steer clear of them.
A single missing document can delay an application or raise questions about it.
We check your file against the official checklist before you submit.
Dates that don’t line up across bookings, insurance and the form are easy to miss.
We cross check dates across every document.
Names, addresses or employment details that differ from one document to the next.
We review your details for consistency, line by line.
A form on its own doesn’t always explain your circumstances or purpose of travel.
We help you identify evidence that supports your trip.
A disorganised file is harder to assess, however strong the application behind it.
We help you present everything clearly and in order.
Good to know
Still have a question? Our team can talk through your trip and your circumstances.
Speak to an expertIt depends on your passport, eligibility and how you enter Canada. Many visa-exempt travellers need an eTA when flying, while visa-required travellers usually need a visitor visa. Some visa-required nationals qualify for an eTA under specific conditions. UK residency alone does not settle the question.
British citizens usually need an eTA rather than a visitor visa when flying to Canada for a short visit. Different rules apply when entering by land or sea, and some travellers have exemptions. Check the requirement for the passport and route you will actually use.
You will usually need your passport and evidence of your travel plans, finances and reasons to leave Canada after your visit. Include relevant UK residence documents if you live here. The online application gives a checklist for your circumstances, including any invitation or sponsor evidence.
IRCC publishes a current estimate that changes over time. It is not a guaranteed deadline, and the time needed to give biometrics may be additional. Check it before choosing travel dates and respond promptly if you are asked for more information.
You may need one; not every applicant has to give new biometrics. If required, IRCC sends a biometrics instruction letter after your application. Use that letter to book the appointment and follow its deadline rather than arranging an appointment before the instruction arrives.
If your application is approved and you are asked to submit your passport, follow the passport-request instructions. You need the visa placed in your passport before travelling on that route. A biometrics appointment or approval message alone is not the finished travel document.
Yes, family visits are a visitor purpose. Explain who you are visiting, where you will stay and who pays for the trip. An invitation can help describe the visit, but you still need to meet the visitor requirements yourself.
The total depends on the application and whether biometrics are needed. There can be separate charges for the visitor visa, biometrics and passport-handling services. Flyinbird’s assistance is another fee. We will set out the applicable costs before you proceed.
UK residence can help explain your circumstances and ties, but it does not guarantee approval or replace a Canadian travel document. Your application still needs to show a genuine temporary visit, sufficient funds and reasons to leave Canada afterwards.
Yes. We can help with the application, supporting documents and any biometrics or passport-request steps. Your checklist depends on your circumstances. IRCC decides the outcome, and our support cannot guarantee a decision date or approval.
