New Zealand visa: the official route.

Who needs one, what it costs and how long it takes. Checked against official sources on 30 Sep 2026.

Who needs this visa

  • You live in the UK and your passport isn’t visa waiver for New Zealand, for example an Indian, Pakistani or Nigerian passport.

Who usually doesn’t

Your UK residence and nationality

  • Your UK status can still help show your ties to home, so include it.

Before you apply

Avoid the
common mistakes.

Most application problems are avoidable. These are the ones we see most often, and how we help you steer clear of them.

  1. 01

    Incomplete documentation

A single missing document can delay an application or raise questions about it.

We check your file against the official checklist before you submit.

  2. 02

    Incorrect travel dates

Dates that don’t line up across bookings, insurance and the form are easy to miss.

We cross check dates across every document.

  3. 03

    Information inconsistencies

Names, addresses or employment details that differ from one document to the next.

We review your details for consistency, line by line.

  4. 04

    Missing supporting evidence

A form on its own doesn’t always explain your circumstances or purpose of travel.

We help you identify evidence that supports your trip.

  5. 05

    Poorly prepared application

A disorganised file is harder to assess, however strong the application behind it.

We help you present everything clearly and in order.

frequently asked questions.

Speak to an expert

Your passport, route and eligibility decide. Many visa-waiver travellers use an NZeTA, while others need a visitor visa in advance. There are additional rules for some routes and travellers. Having UK residence permission alone does not make you eligible for an NZeTA.

Eligible British citizens usually travel with an NZeTA rather than applying for a visitor visa before a short visit. Entry permission is still assessed on arrival. Check the rules if your plans involve a longer stay or a purpose beyond a normal visit.

Yes. You can normally apply online and provide evidence of your UK residence and circumstances. Explain why you are visiting, how you will pay and your plans to leave New Zealand. The required documents depend on your application.

You will usually need your passport, financial evidence, travel plans and information showing that the visit is genuine and temporary. Include UK residence details and relevant employment, study or sponsor evidence. Follow the checklist for your circumstances rather than a generic document list.

Immigration New Zealand publishes current processing information. Check the visitor visa estimate rather than the NZeTA estimate; they are different applications. Additional documents or checks can extend the time, so apply well ahead of your intended departure.

Immigration New Zealand says to allow 72 hours, though some requests are processed sooner. Request it before travel and check that it is approved and linked to the correct passport. Do not rely on receiving it while checking in at the airport.

The NZeTA is permission to travel, not the final stay permission. Eligible visitors are normally considered for up to three months per visit, or up to six months for UK citizens. Border conditions and total-stay limits still apply.

Sponsorship may be an option, but the sponsor must meet the official conditions and supply the required evidence. Tell us whether someone is paying for your trip or accommodation so the application uses the correct financial evidence.

You need to meet the onward-travel requirement for your entry route. This can involve evidence of a ticket out of New Zealand or, where permitted, enough money and arrangements to buy one. Check your particular visa conditions before travelling.

The current page lists £349 per traveller for visitor visa assistance. Official application charges and any applicable visitor levy are separate. An NZeTA has a different application route, so ask us to check what you actually need before paying.
