How soon you get an appointment depends on VFS Global’s availability, which is tightest in summer and around school holidays. You can apply up to six months before you travel, and no later than 15 days before.
Once you’ve attended, the consulate usually decides within 15 calendar days. This can extend to 45 days if it needs more documents or checks.
Always check the official pages before you apply. They take priority over this guide.

How we help
Appointments are booked through the official visa application centre, which sets its own availability. We help you reach that step organised and prepared.
Flyinbird doesn’t control appointment availability or visa decisions. Slots are released by the visa centre and can vary by season and location.
Speak to an expertBefore you apply
Most application problems are avoidable. These are the ones we see most often, and how we help you steer clear of them.
A single missing document can delay an application or raise questions about it.
We check your file against the official checklist before you submit.
Dates that don’t line up across bookings, insurance and the form are easy to miss.
We cross check dates across every document.
Names, addresses or employment details that differ from one document to the next.
We review your details for consistency, line by line.
A form on its own doesn’t always explain your circumstances or purpose of travel.
We help you identify evidence that supports your trip.
A disorganised file is harder to assess, however strong the application behind it.
We help you present everything clearly and in order.
Good to know
Still have a question? Our team can talk through your trip and your circumstances.
Speak to an expertIt depends on your passport, not just your UK address. British citizens usually do not need a visa for a short holiday in Finland. If your nationality requires a Schengen visa, a UK residence permit or eVisa does not normally replace it. We can check the route for your passport and UK status.
Finland’s guidance directs applicants to finlandvisa.fi for the form and supporting-document checklist. It also allows a completed PDF form, but you should still check the required documents on the site. Preparing the form is followed by an appointment to submit the application.
Finland’s UK guidance lists VFS Global centres in London, Manchester and Edinburgh. Pre-book your visa appointment through the correct route. Embassy appointments for passports or notarial services are different and cannot be used to submit a tourist visa application.
No. Finland’s guidance says honorary consuls and honorary consulates do not grant visas. Use the visa application centre designated for your place of residence. This avoids booking a consular service that cannot handle your application.
No separate regional visa is needed for Finnish Lapland. If your passport requires a visa, the normal short-holiday route is a Schengen visa covering Finland. If your route also visits another country, include that when checking where to apply.
Usually, yes, with a standard Schengen visa covering both countries. Include accommodation and travel plans for each stop. The visa’s permitted stay applies across the whole journey, rather than restarting when you cross into Sweden.
You will usually need your passport, application form, photo, proof of UK residence, travel medical insurance, itinerary, accommodation and evidence you can afford the trip. Documents about your job, studies or sponsor may also be needed. We will help you match the file to the official Finland checklist.
The standard short-stay Schengen visa fee is €90 for an adult. Reduced fees or exemptions apply to some applicants. The visa centre may charge a separate service fee, and Flyinbird’s optional assistance is another cost. Check the current fee in pounds and what is included before paying.
