How soon you get an appointment depends on VFS Global’s availability, which is tightest in summer and around school holidays. You can apply up to six months before you travel, and no later than 15 days before.
Once you’ve attended, the consulate usually decides within 15 calendar days. This can extend to 45 days if it needs more documents or checks.
Always check the official pages before you apply. They take priority over this guide.

How we help
Appointments are booked through the official visa application centre, which sets its own availability. We help you reach that step organised and prepared.
Flyinbird doesn’t control appointment availability or visa decisions. Slots are released by the visa centre and can vary by season and location.
Speak to an expertBefore you apply
Most application problems are avoidable. These are the ones we see most often, and how we help you steer clear of them.
A single missing document can delay an application or raise questions about it.
We check your file against the official checklist before you submit.
Dates that don’t line up across bookings, insurance and the form are easy to miss.
We cross check dates across every document.
Names, addresses or employment details that differ from one document to the next.
We review your details for consistency, line by line.
A form on its own doesn’t always explain your circumstances or purpose of travel.
We help you identify evidence that supports your trip.
A disorganised file is harder to assess, however strong the application behind it.
We help you present everything clearly and in order.
Good to know
Still have a question? Our team can talk through your trip and your circumstances.
Speak to an expertIt depends on your passport, not just your UK address. British citizens usually do not need a visa for a short holiday in Malta. If your nationality requires a Schengen visa, a UK residence permit or eVisa does not normally replace it. We can check the route for your passport and UK status.
Malta’s London mission says UK-issued refugee Convention Travel Documents and Stateless Person’s Travel Documents are subject to visa requirements. Do not assume the British citizen passport exemption applies. Check your exact document and prepare the appropriate application before travel.
Malta’s London High Commission accepts applications lodged through VFS Global offices in the UK. Book the appropriate submission appointment and follow the checklist for your purpose. Having a British residence permit does not automatically exempt a visa-required passport holder.
The UK VFS notice says applications at its London centre must be submitted at least 16 calendar days before intended departure. Allow more time for finding an appointment, extra checks and passport return. That minimum is a submission requirement, not a promised decision date.
Yes. Malta is part of the Schengen area, so a standard Schengen visa normally covers a short visit there. Check its territorial coverage, dates, entries and permitted stay before making plans.
You can organise the applications together, but each traveller who needs a visa has their own application and supporting requirements. Children may need additional documents such as parental consent. Prepare the files around the same holiday dates and follow Malta’s family application instructions.
You will usually need your passport, application form, photo, proof of UK residence, travel medical insurance, itinerary, accommodation and evidence you can afford the trip. Documents about your job, studies or sponsor may also be needed. We will help you match the file to the official Malta checklist.
The standard short-stay Schengen visa fee is €90 for an adult. Reduced fees or exemptions apply to some applicants. The visa centre may charge a separate service fee, and Flyinbird’s optional assistance is another cost. Check the current fee in pounds and what is included before paying.
