How soon you get an appointment depends on VFS Global’s availability, which is tightest in summer and around school holidays. You can apply up to six months before you travel, and no later than 15 days before.
Once you’ve attended, the consulate usually decides within 15 calendar days. This can extend to 45 days if it needs more documents or checks.
Always check the official pages before you apply. They take priority over this guide.

How we help
Appointments are booked through the official visa application centre, which sets its own availability. We help you reach that step organised and prepared.
Flyinbird doesn’t control appointment availability or visa decisions. Slots are released by the visa centre and can vary by season and location.
Speak to an expertBefore you apply
Most application problems are avoidable. These are the ones we see most often, and how we help you steer clear of them.
A single missing document can delay an application or raise questions about it.
We check your file against the official checklist before you submit.
Dates that don’t line up across bookings, insurance and the form are easy to miss.
We cross check dates across every document.
Names, addresses or employment details that differ from one document to the next.
We review your details for consistency, line by line.
A form on its own doesn’t always explain your circumstances or purpose of travel.
We help you identify evidence that supports your trip.
A disorganised file is harder to assess, however strong the application behind it.
We help you present everything clearly and in order.
Good to know
Still have a question? Our team can talk through your trip and your circumstances.
Speak to an expertIt depends on your passport, not just your UK address. British citizens usually do not need a visa for a short holiday in the Netherlands. If your nationality requires a Schengen visa, a UK residence permit or eVisa does not normally replace it. We can check the route for your passport and UK status.
The Dutch UK guidance lists VFS Global centres in Birmingham, Edinburgh, London and Manchester for ordinary Schengen applications. You must normally live in the UK to apply through this route. Diplomatic or official passport holders have separate submission arrangements.
Yes. The Dutch instructions say to make a separate appointment for each person. Each applicant must attend, including children under 18. Arrange the family’s documents around the same trip, but do not assume one booking covers everyone.
No. Complete your own online form so it receives its own unique code, then print and sign it for submission. NetherlandsWorldwide warns that forms without that code can cause processing issues. Your details must match your own passport and travel plans.
A standard Schengen visa can normally cover both. Include your transport and accommodation for the whole trip, not just Amsterdam. Apply through your main destination; for a straightforward holiday, that is usually where you stay longest.
You need evidence of where you will stay, but that does not always mean a hotel. A private visit may need an invitation or the official host accommodation or sponsorship document. Follow the Dutch checklist for your circumstances rather than supplying a hotel booking that does not match your plans.
You will usually need your passport, application form, photo, proof of UK residence, travel medical insurance, itinerary, accommodation and evidence you can afford the trip. Documents about your job, studies or sponsor may also be needed. We will help you match the file to the official Netherlands checklist.
The standard short-stay Schengen visa fee is €90 for an adult. Reduced fees or exemptions apply to some applicants. The visa centre may charge a separate service fee, and Flyinbird’s optional assistance is another cost. Check the current fee in pounds and what is included before paying.
