Before you apply

Avoid the
common mistakes.

Most application problems are avoidable. These are the ones we see most often, and how we help you steer clear of them.

  1. 01

    Incomplete documentation

A single missing document can delay an application or raise questions about it.

We check your file against the official checklist before you submit.

  2. 02

    Incorrect travel dates

Dates that don’t line up across bookings, insurance and the form are easy to miss.

We cross check dates across every document.

  3. 03

    Information inconsistencies

Names, addresses or employment details that differ from one document to the next.

We review your details for consistency, line by line.

  4. 04

    Missing supporting evidence

A form on its own doesn’t always explain your circumstances or purpose of travel.

We help you identify evidence that supports your trip.

  5. 05

    Poorly prepared application

A disorganised file is harder to assess, however strong the application behind it.

We help you present everything clearly and in order.

British citizen passport holders usually do not need a visa for a short holiday. Other British passport categories and travel documents can have different rules. If you live in the UK with another nationality, check that passport’s requirements rather than assuming the British exemption applies.

Eligible UK residents with ordinary passports can use JAPAN eVISA for a short tourism trip when they need a visa. You must meet the current residence and application conditions. People who already qualify for visa-free tourism normally do not need this application.

The current JAPAN eVISA route is for tourism, not every temporary visit. For a business trip or a visit primarily to relatives or friends, check the embassy or consulate application route that matches your purpose.

Prepare your passport, proof of UK residence and the documents requested for your itinerary, accommodation and finances. The application may also need employment or student evidence. Use the checklist for your exact visa route and the Japanese office responsible for your UK address.

The usual examination period is about five working days after a valid application is accepted, but extra documents, an interview or further checks can make it longer. Leave additional time for the relevant submission and payment steps. Do not treat the five-day figure as guaranteed.

The normal eVISA process is online, including receiving the electronic visa. The Japanese office can still request an interview or more documents. A consular application for another visa purpose may have a different submission process.

No. You need to display the live Visa issuance notice using the prescribed method with an internet connection. A screenshot, PDF or printed copy is not accepted as a substitute. Check that you can open the notice on your device before travelling.

Japan normally does not accept a new application for the same purpose within six months of a refusal. Limited exceptions may be considered, so ask the responsible embassy or consulate before applying again. Do not simply resubmit the same file.

The current Japan page lists £120 per traveller for assistance. The official visa fee is separate and can depend on nationality or exemptions. Ask for the confirmed total and payment terms before you proceed.

The current tourism eVISA is single-entry. If you plan to leave Japan and return during the same holiday, check the appropriate route before applying. The visa’s validity period does not turn it into a multiple-entry document.
